“Working with the smaller kids, it’s so fun that you just want to be here. It’s like my second home away from home.”

Vivalyn Jones, Volunteer

Volunteer Opportunities

Each year hundreds of people give their time to help us achieve our mission. We seek individuals and groups to help as one-time volunteers or in an ongoing capacity. We need help with: program assistance, community events, videography and photography, and administrative and fundraising tasks. Volunteering with us is fun, and you might even get to wear a funny hat!

Join us for fun and creativity while giving back to the communities we serve! All volunteers new to Creative Action must complete an orientation prior to being placed in a volunteer opportunity.

Opportunities for Existing Volunteers

If you are an existing volunteer, please email to indicate your availability for these events. We will check and respond to new volunteer inquiries on a weekly basis.

Special Event Volunteers: Individuals engage with the community, use their valuable skills to help with the setup and facilitation of activities, communicate with event partners, etc. We have exciting outreach events on a regular basis and are recruiting energetic, creative, and thoughtful individuals who can help us deliver the community and creativity that Creative Action offers.

Our next Community Art Sunday is March 3 with volunteer shifts between 12:30-6 pm here at Creative Action. Community Art Sundays are totally FREE events for all ages to enjoy interactive art projects, musicians, food, drink, and fun!

Out of School Time Volunteers (Spring): Volunteers serve as an extra pair of hands for one of our Teaching Artists at an After School program site once per week throughout the fall semester. We have After School classes at 45+ campuses in Austin, Eanes, and Del Valle school districts, and each class explores social issues through theatre, art, music, puppets, and more. After School volunteer activities might include prepping art projects, leading games, encouraging and supporting students during class, filming movies, and generally modeling student behavior. The hours are generally 2:30-5:30 pm or 3-6 pm weekly. After School volunteers gain professional experience working with youth, learn new skills in the arts, and make a positive difference in the lives of young people! Before volunteering after school, volunteers must pass a criminal background check and attend a volunteer orientation.

Legacy Leaders:  Adults age 55+ assist our Out of School Time programs one afternoon a week by helping with an intergenerational art project, incorporating their life memories. School options include Campbell Elementary, Gullet Elementary, Sunset Valley Elementary, Hart Elementary, and Becker Elementary.
