“Working with the smaller kids, it’s so fun that you just want to be here. It’s like my second home away from home.”
Vivalyn Jones, Legacy Leader
Each year hundreds of people give their time to help us achieve our mission. We seek individuals and groups to help as one-time volunteers or in an ongoing capacity. We need help with: program assistance, community events, videography and photography, and administrative and fundraising tasks. Volunteering with us is fun, and you might even get to wear a funny hat!
If you are an existing volunteer, please email email@example.com to indicate your availability for these events. We will check and respond to new volunteer inquiries on a weekly basis.
Special Event Volunteers
Individuals engage with the community, use their valuable skills to help with the setup and facilitation of activities, communicate with event partners, etc. We have exciting outreach events on a regular basis and are recruiting energetic, creative, and thoughtful individuals who can help us deliver the community and creativity that Creative Action offers. Upcoming:
September 15, 2 – 5 pm. Community Art Sunday, a free, recurring community event that features live performances, art workshops, and active learning experiences and fun for all ages.
After School Volunteers
After school volunteers serve as an extra pair of hands one day per week throughout the semester for one of our Teaching Artists (TAs) in the classroom.
The hours are generally 2:30-5:30PM or 3-6PM one afternoon a week at an elementary or middle school in Central, South, or East Austin. It is strongly recommended that after school volunteers have reliable transportation.
After School Volunteer activities might include: prepping art projects, helping film movies, leading games, encouraging students during class, and preparing for the end of semester sharing. After School Volunteers gain professional experience working with youth, learning new skills in the arts, and making a positive difference in the lives of young people!
We are seeking adults age 55 and better, who love and value children and have a story or skill to share! Examples of Legacy Leader projects include collaging, story sharing, gardening, science demos, and simple art projects, etc.
Legacy Leaders assist at our monthly special events or with one of our after school programs one afternoon a week.
“Once we started planting, 'I want to help! I want to help!' All the kids loved it. They really like to do things with adults -- they want to be involved with us.”
Debbie Doggett, Legacy Leader
