In the past week I have been taken to worlds where zombies run rampant, inside the music industry, on an adventure to find the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, tried to solve three different murder mysteries, been on the worst date ever, and so much more! And the most amazing part was each of these journeys were written by Lamar Middle School students as part of a play-writing workshop that I have been teaching.
I have been working with two different creative writing classes in:
- Learning how to craft a play.
Finally, this week, we began reading the completed scripts out loud, and it has been inspiring and amazing to hear the creativity, humor and honesty that these students put into their writings. The scripts were inspired by a discussion of “What are Big Questions?” The students then picked a question that interested them and used their play as a way to explore a possible answer.
The writers will become actors as we showcase some of the student written scripts in a staged reading this Friday, Dec 14th at Lamar Middle School at 6pm. Open and free to the public: http://bit.ly/U3gItt
