Expanding Outside the Classroom

saturdayscollage

We bring a spirit of fun and artistic inquiry not only to classrooms throughout Austin, but through community-based programming at the Center for Creative Action. We offer a suite of events, classes, and programs that enrich the community and enliven our mission. Creative Action’s Saturdays at the Center is a hub for arts enrichment classes. If you’re looking for a safe space to bond with the child in your life and nurture their creative skills, Saturdays at the Center is perfect!

Saturdays at the Center

When you arrive, enjoy complimentary coffee and share refreshments with the kids, or play with toys, books, and craft activities before and after class.  Director Stephanie Chavez Noell loves coming in every weekend because “Saturday classes are pure joy and sweetness, and kids develop into their own unique being.”

Community Art Sundays

One of our most popular event series is Community Art Sundays, presented by H-E-B. Every Community Art Sundays offer a relaxed and inviting environment for families to try new arts-based projects, take in live music, and nosh on free snacks and drinks. These free celebrations take place every 4-6 weeks, and activities are tailored toward a specific theme, like food, science, or sustainability. This year’s guests have included indie-rock trio Charlie Belle, techno-wizards Arc Attack, and family funk super duo Sugar Free All Stars.

Continuing Creativity shares their work

Continuing Creativity

While the bulk of our community programming is geared toward youth, Continuing Creativity’s elders harness their life experiences and fill the Center with their wisdom, sensitivity, perceptiveness, and joy. Offered at no cost, participants ages 65 and up start class with a physical warm-up activity, and then engage in interviews, word association games, creative writing, journaling, and collages. After 8 to 12 sessions, Continuing Creativity hosts a final public sharing and celebration of their work.

If you have questions about or would like to sponsor one of our Community Programs, please contact us at info@creativeaction.org.
