We are beyond ecstatic to announce that Creative Action will be launching a brand new program on September 9. Called The Bridge for the metaphorical bridge it creates between our elementary and teen programs, the program focuses on ages 11 – 14 to fill a critical gap in current out-of-school time services for middle school youth in Austin.
The Bridge – Creative Action
Mondays & Wednesdays (Fall 2019)
4:30pm – 6:30pm
Starting September 9
As with all of our after school programming, The Bridge will use the arts — specifically digital art and performance projects — to empower youth to create positive social change. Located in our building in Springdale General, the program will serve as an East Austin hub for a diverse group of youth to develop community building.
To begin, programming will be held on Monday and Wednesday this fall, with an expansion to four days in the spring. The classes are free after a one-time $40 registration fee.
Longtime Creative Action team member, Fadeelah Muhyee, will be leading the program with Teaching Artist Tia Boyd. Fadeelah was previously the site coordinator at Lee Lewis Campbell Elementary, our Spark School, where she was an incredible and invigorating leader. This summer, she and Tia worked with middle school-aged students to create original songs and music videos dealing with social justice issues at Creative Action’s two-week Studio camp. They both hope to do even bigger and better things with a full semester of working with students.
