When there’s a week off from school, we like to make a game of it. Our “Game On!” spring break camp introduces students ages 5-10 to various forms of interactive game design. Campers craft their own board and card games—maps, characters, rules and all—while learning together about the odds and surprises that go into creating an immersive, original game. On the other end of the tech spectrum, campers embark on accessible paths to modern game design, using the Scratch programming language and Makey Maker kits to keep up to the cutting edge.
And during the hot summer months, Creative Action’s award-winning summer camps also offer rewarding experiences. Our trained, professional teaching artists lead camp sessions covering everything from invention to filmmaking to gardening. In collaboration with Sustainable Food Center, “Cultivating Community” explores the ways in which sustainable gardening intersects with civic responsibility as campers prepare organic snacks, dig into gardening, and explore the Boggy Creek Watershed (June 6-10; Ages 5 to 9). For the older set (Ages 10-14), “The Studio” is a mini-suite of immersive, two-week long introductions to the professional worlds of filmmaking, audio storytelling, and visual art. No matter your artistic interest, we’ve got a camp for you, but hurry soon—spots are going fast!
