Creative Action Announces New Board Members

Three Individuals Representing Varying Industries Join Creative Action’s Mission to Inspire Creativity, Unlock Potential, and Transform Lives Through the Arts 

Creative Action is pleased to announce the addition of three new board of directors members: Denise Hernandez, Deputy Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Travis County Attorney’s Office, Abbey McGrew, Data Science Manager, Apple, Inc., and Kelea Youngblood, Chief Marketing Officer, Austin Board of REALTORS®. These new directors represent a variety of industries and communities across Austin and bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience working within, alongside, and on behalf of the nonprofit sector. 

The Creative Action board is committed to raising awareness and philanthropic community support for the organization’s mission, which is to use the arts as a medium to inspire creativity, unlock potential, and transform the lives of students of all ages. 

“We are thrilled to welcome these local community leaders and social activists who will help us implement Creative Action’s vision to be a force for equity, belonging, and joy in our society,” said Sarah Richardson, Creative Action Board Chair. “Their unique backgrounds and diverse experience will make them a great asset to the organization’s long-term growth and success.” 

Joining the board are: 

Denise Hernandez, Deputy Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Travis County Attorney’s Office

Denise Hernandez is a lawyer and social impact leader. She currently serves as the Deputy Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Travis County Attorney’s Office, working to build equitable criminal justice reform. Denise started her career representing survivors of domestic violence in low-income communities. She later became an Assistant District Attorney, helping survivors of domestic violence and child abuse in Travis County. In addition to her professional work, Denise is a social entrepreneur. In 2017, she launched Hustle for the Cause, a social enterprise focused on impact entrepreneurship. Then in 2018, she created Chingona Fest Texas, an annual Latinx empowerment event that raises funds for Latinx non-profits. Denise has been nationally recognized for her social impact work, honored as an Anne McAfee Leader of Cultural Change, and named a young Latinx distinguished leader in 2020. Denise is driven by her lived experience to empower others to become change makers.

Abbey McGrew, Data Science Manager, Apple, Inc.

Abbey McGrew is a data science leader at Apple specializing in cutting edge machine learning technologies designed to identify, track, and eliminate fraudulent attacks and optimize Apple’s global supply chain. Abbey was born and raised in New Orleans and received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester. Abbey is passionate about building more opportunities for women to have fulfilling careers in technology.  She particularly enjoys working with Women@Apple in partnership with the National Center for Women in Technology (NCWIT) and Girls Who Code to support and mentor young women interested in pursuing education and careers in computer science.

Kelea Youngblood, Chief Marketing Officer, Austin Board of REALTORS®

Kelea Youngblood has served as the Austin Board of REALTORS Chief Marketing Officer since 2018. Caring deeply about community, Kelea donates her time and resources to the Girls Empowerment Network, Family Links, and Austin Young Women’s Alliance. Additionally, she serves as a member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce’s District-to-College Achievement Plan Executive Committee; and has previously served as a member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce’s Business Awards Nomination Committee, the National Association of REALTORS®’ Professional Development Committee, and REALTOR® Association Certified Executive Committee. She was the Women’s Council of REALTORS® Affiliate of the Year in 2012 and 2013, and she is a proud graduate of Texas Real Estate Leadership Program and Leadership Austin 2019 Essentials class.
