We are proud to be a part of the transformation of a downtown alley on April 20, 2013. Please join us!
From Wednesday, April 17 to Sunday, April 21, the a collaboration among Austin Art Alliance, TBG and Creative Action will also include artists, architects, performers and participants to transform an alley off of 9th Street between Congress and Brazos into a beautiful public space.
The installation of “floating planes” by Dan Cheetham and Michelle Tarsney will soar above the space along with hundreds of paper Peace Cranes created by Creative Action. The goal of this project, called “20 ft Wide” is to acknowledge these utilitarian spaces before they are lost of larger developments.
“We’re proud to have been asked to participate,” says Karen LaShelle, executive and artistic director of Creative Action. “The process of re-framing and re-imagining an overlooked public space can open kids’ eyes to other spaces and help them see their beauty, too.”
For Creative Action, the culmination of its contribution will be on Saturday, April 20, with Alley Kids Family Day. Scheduled are Tai Chi in the morning followed by food trucks, story time, writing workshops, Peace Crane-making and musical performances throughout the day.
